    Sustainable Markets Initiative in Davos

    On Wednesday 18th January, the Sustainable Markets Initiative hosted its first event of 2023, convening global CEOs and Sustainable Markets Initiative supporters for the launch of the 2022 Impact Report in Davos. 

    The launch reception showcased the action and impact the Sustainable Markets Initiative has made against the 10 Terra Carta Articles over the past year, as well as the commitments of the Sustainable Markets Initiative to keep driving results to build a more sustainable future for Nature, People, and Planet.     

    At Goals House in Davos, the Sustainable Markets Initiative's Sustainable Buildings Task Force brought together over 17 global companies and organisations for a roundtable on the “Pathway to Decarbonizing the Built Environment”; exploring the solutions and actions that can be taken to accelerate the delivery of net zero buildings to reduce carbon emissions.

    Terra Carta Action Forum at COP27

    The convening power of the Sustainable Markets Initiative was on full display at the Terra Carta Action Forum, as global CEOs and world leaders discussed how to accelerate change whilst keeping Nature, People and Planet at the core of industry and financial services.

    More than 500 people attended 20 events across the two-day COP27 forum.

    The two-day Sustainable Markets Initiative Terra Carta event at COP27 brought together 26 CEOs that provided remarks and insights alongside government representatives, NGOs and public sector organizations. Discussions included a range of topics such as scaling blended finance, the energy transition, sustainable air travel, agribusiness, sustainable buildings, and regenerative fashion.

    UNGA at New York Climate Week | September 2022

    During New York Climate Week, the Sustainable Markets Initiative convened more than 80 Global CEOs for its bi-annual Summit to discuss the importance of the private sector at COP and the impact our Sustainable Markets Initiative CEOs continue to have in the drive towards a sustainable future.

    Throughout the week, the Sustainable Markets Initiative hosted a selection of events across New York including a panel on Driving Investment into Nature panel at Goals House, a Coastal Nature-based Solutions Workshop, and an immersive sustainability journey at the largest office building in New York City.

    CHOGM | June 2022

    During the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, the SMI partnered with Goals House to host the very first Terra Carta House; a curated series of exclusive events, convening a community of government, business and NGOs from across the Commonwealth united in the drive to achieve the objectives of the Terra Carta.

    Over the two days, Terra Carta house hosted over 400 attendees, across 19 events. The programme of events incorporated critical themes to the Sustainable Markets Initiative, including regenerative agriculture, e-mobility, climate and nature related finance, sustainable health systems, sustainable infrastructure and green hydrogen.

    CEO Summit | May 2022

    In May, His Majesty King Charles III, in his role as His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, hosted over 150 CEOs at a Summit in St. James’s Palace. Making an appeal to the leaders who gathered, HRH The Prince of Wales emphasised: “you hold the solution to demonstrate what can be done.”   

    This year’s event embraced the progress made in 2021 and the aim to go further in 2022, with a focus on how to practically accelerate market creation in the real economy through cross-industry collaboration, blended finance and cutting-edge market signals. Leaders focused on the need for action and moving finance and investment in the right direction, discussing the key opportunities to drive this forward, including the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Rwanda in June, the G7 in Germany in June and COP27 in Egypt in Novemb

    His Majesty Terra Carta Photo

    In Glasgow, His Majesty King Charles III, in his role as His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, hosted a two-day event at Kelvingrove Art Gallery, bringing together world leaders, business leaders and activists.

    During these events, the SMI announced the Terra Carta Seal; recognising global corporations that are demonstrating their commitment to, and momentum towards, the creation of sustainable markets, the Natural Capital Investment Alliance announced 12 new members alongside plans to mobilise more than USD $10 billion of private capital, with the Health Systems Task Force also publishing a letter of intent to reduce the healthcare sector’s emissions, which contribute over 4% of annual global greenhouse gases. A further 28 SMI firms also joined together at the summit and pledged to accelerate the use of decarbonized hydrogen.

    G7 | July 2021

    For the first time, CEOs secured a face-to-face meeting with world leaders at a G7 Summit with talks focussed on building a sustainable future. 

    The Cornwall summit saw world leaders joined by business leaders representing the SMI in the unique meeting in Cornwall. The unprecedented get-together saw the business representatives present three new initiatives for accelerating sustainable investment and encouraging private and public sector collaboration.

    The unprecedented summit followed a meeting for company and corporate leaders at St James’s Palace, London which was joined by the United States Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, Secretary John Kerry, and Alok Sharma, President Designate of the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference. The CEOs represent over 300 global business leaders who form part of the ‘Coalition of the Willing’, convened by His Majesty King Charles III, in his role as His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, as part of his Sustainable Markets Initiative.
