Country Council

North America Council

    About the Council

The Sustainable Markets Initiative will be launching its North America Council this Autumn, convening leaders from across Canada, the United States and Mexico to build and accelerate private sector action for Nature, People and Planet.

With the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), North America has a unique opportunity to accelerate a green economy, green jobs and a sustainable future. As members of the G20, these three countries play an outsized role in the global economy as we work to meet the targets set by the Paris Climate Agreement.

The Council will initially focus on five areas aligned with each country’s current Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs):

    • Energy security

    • Food Systems

    • Infrastructure

    • Nature (Land & Water)

    • Finance

The Sustainable Markets Initiative’s Regional and Country Councils work hand-in-hand with our global industry and financial hubs to be mutually reinforcing.
