Leading the narrative
Spring CEO Summit
On Tuesday 14 March, the Sustainable Markets Initiative convened more than 50 Global CEOs for its bi-annual CEO Summit, to discuss its strategic objectives, deliverables, and actions for 2023 to deliver against its mandate of the Terra Carta.
During the event, there was a deep dive into three sustainability challenges that affect all industries. Participants explored innovative solutions that will support the transition towards a more sustainable future for Nature, People, and Planet.

SMI in Davos

On Wednesday 18th January, the Sustainable Markets Initiative hosted its first event of 2023, convening global CEOs and SMI supporters for the launch of the 2022 Impact Report in Davos.
The launch reception showcased the action and impact the SMI has made against the 10 Terra Carta Articles over the past year, as well as the commitments of the SMI to keep driving results to build a more sustainable future for Nature, People, and Planet.
At Goals House in Davos, the SMI’s Sustainable Buildings Task Force bought together over 17 global companies and organisations for a roundtable on the “Pathway to Decarbonizing the Built Environment”; exploring the solutions and actions that can be taken to accelerate the delivery of net zero buildings to reduce carbon emissions.
Terra Carta Action Forum at COP27
The convening power of the Sustainable Markets Initiative was on full display at the Terra Carta Action Forum, as global CEOs and world leaders discussed how to accelerate change whilst keeping Nature, People and Planet at the core of industry and financial services.
More than 500 people attended 20 events across the two-day COP27 forum.
The two-day SMI Terra Carta event at COP27 brought together 26 CEOs that provided remarks and insights alongside government representatives, NGOs and public sector organizations. Discussions included a range of topics such as scaling blended finance, the energy transition, sustainable air travel, agribusiness, sustainable buildings, and regenerative fashion.
UNGA at New York Climate Week | September 2022
During Climate Week in New York, September 2022, The Sustainable Markets Initiative convened 65+ global CEOs for its bi-annual CEO Summit. These activities continue the collective work of the SMI network in assuring a just transition to a more sustainable future.
At the SMI CEO Summit, held at Bank of America, Task Force leaders shared internal progress and collaborated on setting new benchmarks for success. The SMI will share progress on these areas at COP27 and following subsequent SMI CEO Summits held in 2023.
The SMI also hosted events at Goals House - a community of internationally renowned activists, thinkers, political figures, business leaders, and entrepreneurs, that come together at significant global moments throughout the year united in the drive to achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals - bringing the core conversations of the SMI Task Forces to broader audiences.
